GMT HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT Get the calif.flts file via anonymous ftp to mahi.ucsd.edu in the /pub/239/GMT directory. Go to http://www.scecdc.scec.org/recenteqs/ and click on "all earthquake" to get a list of California earthquakes during the last week. Copy this into a file and edit it appropriately so that you will be able to input the quake coordinates into GMT (i.e., extract the latitude and the longitude). Use GMT to make an attractive map of California (the whole state) that shows the locations of the faults and the recent earthquakes. Plot the earthquakes as red circles and the faults as blue lines. Increase the lat/lon labeling interval from the southern California example so that the plot does not look too crowded. Don't include any of the station locations. Choose a suitable title for your map. Please turn in a nice color hardcopy of your final result.
