In February 2001 we were given the opportunity to join Spahr Webb and Rob Evans on an expedition to the East Pacific Rise, and so test our new broadband magnetotelluric (MT) system in a ridge environment. Kerry Key made a small number of deployments on, or close to, the ridge axis, and not only demonstrated the functionality of our new system, but obtained some exciting results from just 5 MT sites.

You can download a copy of a paper describing the pilot study.

Based on the results of this pilot exeriment, we were funded by the NSF to carry out a full-fledged experiment, currently being carried out on the R.V. Roger Revelle in February/March 2004. Watch this space for exciting new results! Meanwhile, our project description is posted on the Ridge 2000 web site.
